SPRING

MIGRATION FAQ's

with our Ornithologist, Maria Kincaid

A clean, well-stocked feeder doesn't just provide sustenance for this season — since birds migrate using the same general paths, creating a welcome food-rich stop means you'll have visitors season after season.

You'll want to fill seed feeders with high-energy seeds like black oil sunflower and safflower. For hummingbird feeders, consider a slightly richer 1:3 mix during cooler early spring weather.

The fun part of spring migration is that you'll get to see some birds that are just passing through on their way further north, as well as the birds that make your area their home for the winter ahead. By using your FeatherSnap premium subscription, you can track which birds are landing in your yard then connect with other bird peepers via the Nestwork channel and see which are continuing their trek northward.
