Common Questions & Answers
Place your smart hummingbird feeder anywhere that it can be securely attached to a fixed object or securely hung using the attached hook. For the best results, place it in a quiet, safe location near flowers and in partial shade. Avoid aiming it directly at the sun.
Clean your feeder with warm water and a small amount of mild soap. A bottle brush may help. Make sure to clean the feeder ports to avoid mold–sanitize with a 90% bleach solution or a 50:50 vinegar and water solution, and let the ports dry completely before adding nectar. Dry everything with a soft cloth or paper towel. Take extra care when cleaning the camera lens so it does not scratch.
The free version of the FeatherSnap app lets you view the feeder’s photos and videos. By upgrading to Premium, you can easily share videos, earn badges, access the FeatherSnap Bird Book, and use AI-enabled bird identification. The Premium version also features longer data retention.
There are several reasons why hummingbirds might not visit your feeder. They include old or spoiled nectar and mold or dirt in the feeder. Also, position your feeder in the best spot available–avoid areas prone to predators, heavy foot traffic, and wind, and don’t hang it more than 6 feet or less than 4 feet off the ground. Keep in mind that patience can pay off—it may take some time for hummingbirds to find a new feeder, especially if one hasn’t been hung there before.
First, check that the camera body is properly inserted into the housing. Next, gently clean any dirt or debris off the solar panels using warm water and a small amount of mild soap. Finally, ensure the feeder is hung in an area that receives several hours of sunlight each day.
